to coordinate all activities associated with the environmental
regulatory compliance for Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The Center is comprised of four sections:

Together,
these sections work on monitoring Federal and State laws,

All faculty, staff and student employees who work in laboratories with chemicals must attend annual chemical safety and hazardous waste disposal training. Workshops last an hour and a half. Please call 453-7180 to reserve a place.
September 17, 2007,
Following an inspection by the Environmental Protection
Agency, a notice of violation was issued to SIU on August
23, 2007. As part of our response to EPA, laboratories
will be required to bring their chemical and biologic
storage areas into compliance. Guidelines for compliance
are listed in the powerpoint presentation entitled “Hazardous
Waste Compliance”; two necessary forms, the satellite
waste accumulation area checklist and the laboratory emergency
response plan, are also available here.
Additional documents will be added in the coming weeks
to assist laboratories to comply with the law. If you
have questions regarding this topic, please e-mail aruffing@cehs.siu.edu.
On April 3,
2007, Kerry Cole, Business Manager II in
the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor and
Kristina Martens, Graduate Assistant in the Psychology
Department were awarded Environmental Health &
Safety Appreciation awards for their advocacy and
support of environmental health & safety. See
