The Center for Ergonomics at Michigan University has developed programmes to analyse manual load-handling tasks. Research is conducted there into lower back strain, working with computer monitors, hand tools, and the biomechanical factors of carpal tunnel syndrome. Research is also conducted into ergonomics in distribution centres and in the hotel sector. Analyses of workstations are performed. Another area of interest is cognitive ergonomics and human-computer interactions. Future research topics will include hand-arm vibrations and muscular strain associated with various activities.
