Europese Binnenvaart Inspectie Systeem (EBIS)

EBIS , the European Barge Inspection Scheme, started operations on 1st July 1998. The Scheme has been developed by oil and chemical companies as part of their commitment to improving the safety of tanker barging operations. Barging is an important means of distributing oil and chemical products within Europe and well run barges play an important part in reducing the risk of accidents or pollution. The main aim of EBIS is to operate a system of exchanging objective safety and quality data on tank barges which an EBIS Member company may consider in deciding whether or not to use that barge. In the section "Lichtereigenaren", information is available for the ship owning companies, the particular owners or lighterman active in the inland shipping. A third section is foreseen for registered inspectors and the fourth offers a list of the EBIS members. Most pages are available but others are protected by passwords.
